The K’s, a band from Connecticut was featured on GP Radio with their song entitled Election Night. I caught up with band leader Dan Kilian and talked with him about the release of their new album ‘I Can’t Get It Together’ and their CD Release Party on October 12 at the Baggitt Inn in New York City.

Dan chatted with Band members about the Green Party and got this response from Dave ‘Soup’ Campbell:

My favorite part of the “green movement” is putting a friggin’ park on top of a building. Soil, plants, trees. An entire ecosystem. Took em long enough! Now they realize it’s great for drainage, heating, cooling, nesting for red tail hawks. And it doesn’t cost a penny. I believe the fix was in for a couple centuries. The roofing folks, guys who build drains, HVAC systems, oil, gas, the Carlyle Group. Send ‘em all to Antarctica! I want hand-to-hand combat with our old friend, the Empire Penguin. My money’s on Empire.

But alas, we can’t even get congestion pricing in a town that kills millions a second from traffic going nowhere.

I want no income tax for anyone and everyone who does not own an automobile. And I want triple tax for everyone who owns a house. Man, talk about a massive carbon footprint. And folks who live on top of one another - in an apartment building - should get free food. The organic stuff. Zero carbon footprint = organic food. And weed.

Kill everyone who drives a “hybrid” car to their carbon mansion in the burbs. Man, talk about counterproductive. Feel good about this: a smack in the face!

This is the hottest election campaign I’ve ever been a part of.  The Ontario Greens have hot policies backed up by a solid political organization.  The stories we are presenting are catching the imagination of the media who, if it were up to them, would love Green Party Leader Frank De Jong in the Leader’s Debate.

The tone of these articles are emblematic of how the Greens are being treated in this campaign: seriously with equal treatment compared to the big three.
Greens release election platform

Taxing water and pollution instead of income, encouraging “walkable” communities linked by transit and meshing Roman Catholic schools with the public system together form the basis of Ontario’s Green Party election platform.

Frank de Jong, provincial leader, introduced his party’s priorities in front of Queen’s Park today, saying eco issues are the only ones that matter.

“The issues that are being discussed in this election are all green issues, whether we’re talking about smog or electricity or nuclear power or preventive health care or agriculture or transportation,” he said.

Scrubbers, cigarettes and six new holidays

TORONTO (CP) — Climate change, coal-fired electricity and last year’s whopping Christmas raise for Ontario politicians were all on the campaign-trail agenda Thursday as the province’s political hopefuls completed a fourth day of campaigning for next month’s election.

The governing Liberals dismissed a Progressive Conservative plan for power-plant smokestack scrubbers as the coal-fired equivalent of a filtered cigarette, while the NDP promised a $10-an-hour minimum wage and a massive pay cut for politicians.

But if there was anything to get voters talking Thursday, it was the campaign platform released by the Green party, which includes six - count ‘em, six - new statutory holidays.

Harper loves Aussie PM Howard. Well, we love senators Bob Brown, Christine Milne and the rest of the Aussie Greens…
I had the pleasure of organizing Bob Brown’s trip to BC in the run-up to BC’s 2005 STV referendum that came so close (58% while 60% was needed).
I’m glad Harper has introduced STV elections in the senate, but without fixed terms, like Australia has we won’t get pro rep which allows the Aussie Greens to be a major player in the federal senate and every state legislature.
But let Canadians not forget that Australia was in Vietnam and Iraq… so let’s not allow Harper’s brand on Conservatism mimic Aussie Conservatism too much.
And oh yes…. good luck with the election Aussie Greens.

Aussie, Canadian Green parties criticize APEC outcome
September 11st 2007
OTTAWA (CP) - Prime Minister Stephen Harper reached a “fraudulent” agreement on climate change with his fellow Asia-Pacific leaders, say the leaders of Green parties in Canada and Australia.
APEC leaders agreed Saturday to a so-called “aspirational goal” of slowing, stopping and eventually reversing greenhouse gas emissions.
