It was interesting how receptive people were to the idea that environmental problems are best solved with political solutions and how an environmental message, while similar in content, could be modified to be attractive to people of varying ideologies.

We talked about the need for tax shift, full cost accounting, the encouragement of energy efficient solutions. These are ‘old school’ green ideas.

We talked about the new agreement between MDI and Tata motors to produce compressed air vehicles for the people of India.

I had a good chat with Connie C. about the need for business to integrate themselves with their communities.

It’s polling day in Alberta as George Read, Leader of the Green Party of Alberta, and Jennifer Wigmore, candidate for Drumheller-Stettler knock on final doors, give their final interviews and work their GOTV magic.

In Calgary Elbow, George has run the most aggressive Green Party of Alberta electoral campaign ever.  The campaign made use of new technology to create a virtual press conference for the release of their 2007 Platform.

Many Progressive Conservative supporters are annoyed with the Stelmach government’s perceived indifference to the growth problems happening in Calgary, exacerbated by criticisms made by Calgary Mayor Dave Bronconnier.  So, if this large group decides not to vote for the Progessive Conservatives, the next logical choice is Green.

Jennifer Wigmore, the newest Green Party of Alberta Candidate, did extremely well in her debates,which were recorded by her husband and GPC Alberta Rep, Cam Wigmore.

Many key issues in Drumheller-Stettler surround land use and water by the oil and gas industry in the area.  These are naturally Green issues and should go to great lengths to improving the vote.

The big voting day is June 12.  Regardless of the outcome, please send your best wishes to George and Jennifer as they push the envelope in Canada’s most Green-Friendly province.

In the Q&A Jen owned the subject of landowner surface rights, came across very credibly and informed on CBM issues, and set the pace with trade, integration, and the Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) agreement. She also covered water transfer issues with Balzac and the Special Areas very well, and of course she brought up a number of popular policies from our platform. She didn’t miss a beat, while the other candidates did, and miraculously Jennifer has somehow gotten ‘in’ with the local farmers. CALGARY - A multibillion-dollar high-speed rail link between Calgary and Edmonton took a forceful step forward Thursday after Premier Ed Stelmach threw his support behind the idea and an Ottawa think-tank called for a feasibility study.

“We have to. We have no choice. It will reduce emissions and it’s visionary,” the premier told reporters at the legislature.

“Now is the time to prepare because we have the options available to purchase land.”

CALGARY (CP) - The Conservative Party of Canada is on the verge of winning an ugly, expensive fight with its own members in an upscale Calgary riding as MP Rob Anders heads toward his second acclamation in less than a year.

An unprecedented move by the party’s national council to deny voting rights to new members in Calgary West is curtailing any potential challenges to Anders in a court-ordered second nomination battle.

“The secret, as everyone knows, to winning a nomination is to be able to sell your supporters memberships and get them out to vote,” said John Knox, one of 11 disgruntled Tories who have fought the party’s unwavering loyalty to Anders from courtroom to courtroom since last August.
